Such a problem: if you have chooks, and a dog, then most leftover foodstuffs can go to them [not avocado-, fruit- stones, lemon or onion skins, if you have a fire, then these can be burnt].
Egg shells: these can be cooked in the oven for 20 minutes. When cool, mash and feed back to your chooks. If you don't have chooks, then start a compost heap.
Tins/cans, paper, plastics can be recycled: clean plastic bags can be accumulated in a large plastic bag hanging close by, and when full, taken to the supermarket. Make it a habit to have 2 bins in your study: 1 for paper, 1 for odds & ends, as well as a plastic bag holding plastic magazine wrappers.
Large kitchen pedal bins: Normally we would have put in a plastic bag, and when that was full, we'd tie it up and drop it in the wheelie bin.
Is There a Better Way?
Yes! Instead of using plastic bags, remove the plastic base from a Green bag, [the sort we now take to the supermarket] and put that in the bin instead. If you wish, you can use pegs to peg it to the sides of the bin.
When full, empty into the wheelie bin, and put the Green bag in the laundry to be washed when washing your cleaning cloths. If you rinse out those cling wraps & meat trays [use them as a palette if you paint!], the bag doesn't get that mucky, and is easily washed. Hopefully, you'll find you only use one every couple of days or so. Challenge yourself to see how small your weekly footprint can be!
